Cure Leukemia is dedicated to raising awareness about Leukemia and the Orange Ribbon!
This site was created in honor of my precious mother, Lera Dishington. Lera was a beautiful and courageous woman who had Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). She fought hard - chemo, bone marrow stem cell transplant, and clinical trials. In her instance, the leukemia was caused by a FLT3 mutation (FLT3-ITD to be precise). No matter what we threw at it, the faulty FLT3 gene would find a way to outsmart it and begin cranking out leukemia cells (blasts) again. Tragically, Lera lost her 9-month battle with AML at age 67 on July 10, 2010.
It is now my mission to pick up where she left off, and continue the fight by raising leukemia awareness and money for research, so that one day there will be a cure for leukemia. To accomplish this, I have created CureLeukemia.org. In addition, I am the captain of “Team Lera” for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Light The Night Walk fundraiser, an LLS Advocates Network Member, and a Be The Match Advocacy Action Network member. Also, I support Jeffrey’s Voice - a leukemia research charity, Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center’s Leukemia program - where Lera was treated, and BMTinfonet - who advocate so strongly for those needing a bone marrow transplant. All these organizations contribute a tremendous amount to the fight against leukemia.
The Cure Leukemia Store
I have designed a series of Leukemia Awareness and Orange Ribbon t-shirts, sweatshirts and other merchandise that can be purchased through my Cure Leukemia Store on Zazzle. All the money I earn from the sale of these items is donated to leukemia research.
